IndiGo to Restart Kolkata-Siem Reap Service in October

A new direct air link connecting Kolkata with Siem Reap will launch in early October, promising to strengthen tourism and commercial ties between India and Cambodia, according to Sinn Chansereyvutha, spokesman for the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation.

IndiGo will operate three weekly flights on the Kolkata-Siem Reap route starting October 1, 2026, with service on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays using Airbus A320neo aircraft, the civil aviation authority confirmed.

Chansereyvutha views the service launch as an encouraging development for India-Cambodia relations. In comments to The Post on September 23, he noted that while the route initially began in November 2025, it was later paused due to seasonal demand patterns. He expects the renewed service to energize tourism, religious travel, and commerce between the nations.

"The route represents a significant commercial opportunity for both countries, enabling collaborative tourism marketing, appealing travel packages, and enhanced connectivity linking Cambodia with India," he stated.

Siem Reap Angkor International Airport stands ready to accommodate IndiGo's operations with safe and efficient service capabilities, he added.

Air Cambodia, the national flag carrier, currently provides direct service between Phnom Penh and New Delhi.

Thoun Sinan, who leads the Pacific Asia Travel Association's Cambodia Chapter, emphasized India's position as the second-largest source of tourists globally after China. He said IndiGo's return would deliver substantial advantages for Cambodia's tourism and business sectors.

Tourism Ministry data shows Cambodia welcomed 71,046 Indian visitors in 2025, representing an 8.5 percent drop from the previous year. Through the first eight months of 2026, Indian arrivals totaled 35,905, down 19.2 percent year-over-year.

By August 2026, Cambodia hosted operations from four domestic airlines and 29 international carriers, according to civil aviation records.
